Theresa Nie

At age 40, I take my skin health seriously. I’ve had multiple skin cancers disgnosed!

My dermatologist told me in 2014 that my medical file was way too thick for someone my age which was a sobering message to hear. I’ve had procedures that have successfully removed basil cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinomas, and melanoma. Skin cancer is quite treatable when caught early.

I grew up swimming and playing in the water every day in the summer. As a teenager, I was a lifeguard, and didn’t always follow my dad’s advice to re-apply sunscreen often. I also have blue eyes, freckles, and fair skin which makes me more prone to burn. Being tan seemed more attractive than taking care of my skin until I had my first skin cancer at age 34. Hindsight is 20-20 they say!
